Frequency tables
Purpose
The Frequency Tables provide the numerical representation of the wind distribution used to construct the Wind Rose.
They allow precise inspection of directional and wind speed frequencies in both percentage and absolute count formats.
Structure of the Table
Rows represent direction sectors.
Columns represent wind speed classes, including calm when applicable.
The number of sectors may be:
-
12
-
16
-
24
-
36
The number of wind speed classes may follow one of the available schemes:
-
Calm + 5 classes + open maximum
-
Calm + 6 classes + open maximum
-
Calm + 7 classes + open maximum
The active configuration is selected in the Analyze GRIB tab.
Percentage View
In percentage mode, each cell contains:
The percentage of valid hourly records within the main analysis year that fall into the corresponding direction sector and wind speed class.
Row totals represent the total directional contribution.
Column totals represent the overall contribution of each wind speed class.
The sum of all cells (excluding missing values) equals 100%.
Counts View
In counts mode, each cell contains:
The number of hourly observations classified in the corresponding direction sector and wind speed class.
The total equals the number of valid hourly timestamps in the annual main dataset.
This view is useful for regulatory verification and reproducibility checks.
Calm and Missing Values
Calm hours are explicitly reported as a separate category according to the selected classification scheme.
Missing values are reported separately and are not included in frequency percentages.
Data Scope
Frequency Tables:
-
Are computed on-the-fly.
-
Use only the validated annual dataset.
-
Are based on reconstructed wind speed and direction.
-
Apply no interpolation.
Relation to Other Outputs
The Frequency Table contains the exact numerical data used to generate the Wind Rose.
Unlike the Wind Rose, it allows direct quantitative inspection and verification of each frequency value.
