Raw Hourly Table

Purpose

The Raw Hourly Table represents the direct hourly reconstruction of the imported GRIB file.

It reflects the full temporal extent and structure of the dataset exactly as provided, without statistical filtering.

Its purpose is diagnostic and structural: it allows verification of temporal continuity, variable presence and dataset completeness before any analytical processing is performed.

Dataset Construction

WindRose Studio reconstructs a continuous hourly timeline from the first to the last hourly timestamp detected in the GRIB file.

For each reconstructed hour:

  • All variables physically present in the GRIB dataset are included as columns.

  • If a measurement exists for a given hour and variable, the value is reported exactly as read from the GRIB message.

  • If no measurement exists for that hour/variable combination, the corresponding cell is marked as NA.

The timeline may include hours belonging to adjacent calendar years if such records are physically present in the GRIB file.

If the GRIB file contains multiple years or partial-year records, all available data remain visible in the Raw Hourly Table.

However, statistical computations (wind roses, frequency tables, sector distributions and summaries) are performed exclusively on the continuous block of complete calendar years identified as the Main Analysis Year.

Characteristics

The Raw Hourly Table:

  • Reflects the GRIB file content exactly as encoded.

  • Includes all variables found in the dataset.

  • Does not apply meteorological transformations.

  • Does not reconstruct wind speed or wind direction.

  • Does not restrict the dataset to a specific annual window.

This table is a structured representation of the GRIB content designed to make temporal alignment and data completeness immediately visible.

Relation to Other Tables

The Raw Hourly Table differs from the Annual Analysis Table.

While the raw table mirrors the GRIB content, the Annual Analysis Table:

  • Restricts data to the main analysis year (which may consist of multiple consecutive complete calendar years),

  • Reconstructs wind speed and direction from 10u and 10v,

  • Serves as the computational basis for statistical outputs.

This distinction ensures full transparency of the imported dataset while preserving statistical consistency in wind analysis.

The Raw Hourly Table allows users to inspect the complete temporal coverage of the GRIB file, including any incomplete years that are automatically excluded from statistical processing.

Display and Access

The Raw Hourly Table can be built and displayed using the “Build Hourly Table” and “View Hourly Table” controls.

It is primarily intended for data inspection and validation purposes.
